Eugene ‘Gene’ Moore the Cook County Recorder of Deeds was appointed by the Cook County Board of Commissioners to the office in 1999 to complete the vacated term of Jesse White.  He was elected to a full term of office November 7, 2000 and
 overwhelmingly re-elected to a second term of office November 2, 2004.

Moore heads the 2nd largest recorder of deeds office in the nation.  He is responsible for an office with more than 250 employees and an annual budget of 18 million.  He also served two terms as the Democratic Committeeman of Proviso Township, the first African-American to hold the office.

Prior to his appointment and election to the office of Recorder of Deeds, Moore’s first foray into elected politics began in 1989 when he was elected Trustee for Proviso Township.   He was later elected State Representative for the 7th District, again, the first African-American to represent Proviso Township, where he served three terms and had been re-elected to a fourth term when he was appointed Cook County Recorder of Deeds.

Eugene Moore has been actively involved in community and government affairs for over 25 years.  He has mentored youths in the Proviso Township community as a football and basketball coach.  Moore is a member of the Maywood Chamber of Commerce; an Executive Board Member of the Community Economic Development Association (C.E.D.A.) of Cook County; a former member of the Board of Directors of the Proviso Council on Aging; and, an Executive Board Member of the John C. Vaughn’s Scholarship Fund, Inc.  In addition, he is a long term board member of the Boys and Girls Club of West Cook County and has served as an Executive Board Member of the Proviso-Leyden Council on Community Action (P.L.C.C.A.) for the past 25 years.

Moore has been recognized and honored many times for his community service. The Maywood Park District bestowed its “Community Spirit Award” and Habilitative Service, Inc. recognized Moore with its “Youth Enhancement Services Award.”  And, in 1994, Operation Uplift honored Moore with its’ Hometown High Achiever’s award. In 1997, Eugene Moore received a Certificate of Commendation from the Chicago Teacher’s Union in recognition of his efforts on behalf of public education.  And, in the same year he also received the “Legislator of the Year” award from C.E.D.A.

Eugene Moore is a retired Metropolitan Life Insurance senior Account Executive.  He is a member of the AFL-CIO and served as a Union Steward of Local 881 of the United Food and Commercial Workers for many years.

Eugene Moore is a lifelong resident of Maywood, Illinois, located in west suburban Cook County.  He is the proud father of three adult children: Dowanna, Natalie and Eric.  He is also a member of the Second Baptist Church of Maywood.
